Pandit Chandra Kumar Mallick Memorial Charitable Trust, a non-profit organization, is engaged in preserving the rich Indian heritage by promoting Indian classical music and dance styles. Also, the organization has been organizing music festivals across India for the last 19 years to promote art and culture. It is a good platform for the emerging musicians of the country. The Trust is continuously working in the field of music and dance. Our expertise includes singing, playing and various classical dance styles. The Trust has maintained a clean image so far and will continue to do so in the future. It aims to work for the interests of both national and international artists/musicians and honour them. Historical background
The Malliks are famous all over the world for their very rhythmic interpretation of Dhrupad. Apart from old Dhrupad and Dhamar compositions – of which they have an unrivalled repertoire – they are also known for their rendition of the songs of the medieval poet Vidyapati in the Khayal, Tarana, Ghazal, Bhajan and Thumri style.
The long-standing tradition of the Dhrupad lineage of the Darbhanga tradition is embodied in the amazing power of the Alaap, the continuous flow of rhythm coupled with the finest recitative (kavita).
The use of Khandarvani and Gauharvani. Basically this gharana has also maintained the branches of Veena and Pakhavaj playing. The performance of Dhrupad singers of the Darbhanga gharana can be identified mainly by the manner in which they sing the compositions after the Alaap. The distinctive feature of the gharana is powerful and expressive singing, combined with a lively style of performance.
Famous musicians of the Darbhanga gharana in the past were- Pandit Dharmalal Mallick, Pt. Bhim Mallick (Pakhawaj, Pt. Chitpal Mallick, Pt. Nehal Mallick (Veena), Pt. Rajitaram Mallick, Pt. Vishnudev Pathak, Pt. Sukhdev Mallick, Padmashri Pt. Ramchatur Mallick, Pt. Mahavir & Yaduveer Mallick, Padmashri Pt. Siyaram Tiwari and Dhrupad player Pt. Vidur Mallick. Currently Pt. Abhay Narayan Mallick, Pt. Naval Mallick Kishore Mallick, Dr. Pandit Prem Kumar Mallick and Pandit Ram Kumar Mallick are the leading singers while Pandit Ramashish Pathak, Pandit Chandra Kumar Mallick, Shri Uday Kumar Mallick and Shri Anand Kumar Mallick are the Pakhawaj players of the Darbhanga tradition
